Overview
On the eastern coast of India, not far from Calcutta, is the beautiful beach of Gopalpur in the state of Orissa. This is one beach that is as yet not exposed much to tourism and hence still unspoiled. If you are looking for a quiet holiday in the lap of nature, the beach at gopalpur awaits you. A golden beach fringed by sand dunes and ruins of an old jetty from where, in medieval times, sailors set out to Indonesia, make this an ideal place for a relaxing holiday. Once a humming seaport, Gopalpur offers its visitors a slice of serenity in environs. You can still see the crumbling walls and pillars of the jetty, witness to its past glory of commercial activity. Now, plans are on to revitalise the port again and make it fit for modern ships. The pleasures of the Blue Beach and the Blue Bay of her backwaters continue to lure surfers. CLIMATE: Gopalpur is a year-round destination, but the best climate is from October to April. The temperatures range from a summer high of 35° C to a winter low of 16 ° C. The monsoon season (June to September) sees some hot and some very wet days. EXCURSION: Chilika Lake: Situated at a distance of 45-km from Gopalpur and spreading over an area of 1,100-sq-km, this is the largest brackish water lake in the country and attracts large number of migratory birds. Taptapani: Situated 67 km away, Taptapani has hot water springs and is a wonderful place to soak away your aches and pains. Dhavaleswar: Situated 15 km away, Dhavaleshwar is known for its widespread golden beach and a sand bleached Lord Shiva Temple.

Air: The nearest airport is Bhubaneswar, which is 180 Km from Gopalpur. Rail: The nearest railway station is Berhampur, only 16 Km from Gopalpur.Berhampur os well connnected to Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Chennai and other major cities of India. Road: Gopalpur is connected by road to Berhampur (16-km), Bhubaneshwar (180-km) and Puri (242-km).
